The countdown to the country’s most anticipated polo event of the year has begun…

With just three days left until the annual Inanda Africa Cup polo tournament, headlined by sponsor CELL C, devotees of the sport can expect nothing short of unparalleled sportsmanship, thrilling expertise, exhilarating entertainment and glamorous high fashion. The Cup will see some of Joburg’s most important dignitaries, celebrities and VIPs talk fashion, glamour, glitz and beauty according to this year’s ‘Quintessentially African’ theme, while teams from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia and Zimbabwe will compete and demonstrate their game skills and talent.

The most prestigious event on the Polo calendar includes team participations from East and West Africa, as well as Sport Development players, and incorporates a well-established affiliation with the City of Johannesburg. Inanda Club General Manager, Paul Oosthuizen says, “Over the years, together with the esteemed associations with numerous sponsors and partners, the Inanda Africa Cup has grown extensively but the CELL C liaison will take the event to superior heights.”

Modelled on the Roehampton and Hurlingham Clubs in London and reminiscent of country living and rural tranquility, the Inanda Club will serve as the backdrop for day’s lavish activities and the club’s polo manager, Craig James says, “Polo aficionados will have the opportunity to witness a great day of sport against the background of the striking Sandton skyline.” The day offers top-class equestrian sportsmanship as well as entertainment:

  • The Rand Hunt Club, which originated in 1887 at the Germiston Hunt Club, will provide some pomp and ceremony when riders demonstrate the excitement of a hunt, as well as the hunting hounds’ abilities to find and follow a scent line.
  • The popular “Horse vs. Machine’ contest returns for another year and the best pony of the day, ridden by Craig James, will pit its vigorous, vibrant, energetic characteristics against those of a vehicle yet to be revealed.

Supporters for the second year in a row and sponsors of Nigeria, Gaggenau is synonymous with exclusive culinary culture and offers spectators interactive experiences at their Culinary Station.
