Juggling long working hours, nursing relationships and maintaining our own lives is stressful and sometimes overwhelming, but we are often loathe to reach out for help.

If you see a family member, friend or colleague having one of those days, forget the grand gestures and lend a helping hand in these small but meaningful ways.

Make coffee or tea for them first thing in the morning or first thing at the office.

Surprise your partner by making them a sandwich when they’re working late at night on an upcoming project.

Clean up – wash the dishes, pick up your wet towel or even replace the toilet roll!

Listen to your partner’s complaints, even if it is for the umpteenth time.

Take a colleague to lunch.

Make the bed at home if someone else usually does it.

Pay for a stranger’s meal at a restaurant.
