SAMA 23 Nominees Revealed

The South African Music Awards have been a big part of celebrating local musical talents and milestones over the years. In its 23rd year, the award nominations saw newcomers dominating the list last night.

Destiny Exclusive Hotels in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg, hosted musicians, media personalities, MEC’s and journalists on 20 April 2017. Led by radio and television personality Anele Mdoda, the event saw the nominees were unveiled last. Leading SAMA23 is rapper Nasty C, with an impressive six nominations. His Bad Hair Extensions album earned him nods for Best Newcomer of the Year, Best Male Artist of the Year, Best Album of the Year and Best Rap Album. His videos Don’t Do It and Good Girls are in the running for Best Music Video of the Year. Kwesta got five nominations, while new singing sensation Amanda Black bagged four.

The coveted Best Album of the Year will see established names such as Thandiswa Mazwai and Kwesta compete with Amanda Black and Nasty C.
