Older people say that youth is wasted on the young and that if they had it to do over again, they’d use their experiences to make wiser or different choices.
It is unfortunate that we often learn the lesson too late, but this is the process of growing up and maturing. However, there are a few basic life lessons that we can learn now and apply to situations that arise in the future:
1.Nothing is permanent
Sometimes you go through tough times and then think it is the end of the world. Be it sadness, stress or grief – nothing lasts forever! Don’t give up hope because this too shall pass.
2. Embrace the tough times
It is better to confront a situation head on and deal with it than try to brush it off or avoid it. Bottling up your emotions or avoid the issue will lead to further complications down the line. Embrace the trouble, process it, forgive yourself and others, heal and move on.
3. Live in the moment
Beating yourself up over something that happened in the past will only hold you back and steal the joy you could be living today. You cannot stew over what what has been or fret over what will be. Tomorrow is never promised.
4. Money isn’t the answer to everything
You may be earning a great salary and live a comfortable lifestyle, but don’t let money be the driving source towards your success. You might just climb to the top only to realised you’ve left your hapiness at the bottom.
5. You learn a lot from travelling
If you’re given an opportunity to travel, take it! You’ll be exposed to a different world, cultures and people.
6. You’re the main source of your happiness
Other people can contribute towards your happiness, but how you feel shouldn’t be solely dependent on external forces. You are responsible for your happiness.
7. Don’t settle for less
Whether it is a relationship or a job, settling for less than you deserve will lead to discontent. If it makes you unhappy, do right by you and leave!
8. It doesn’t matter what other people think
You can’t get into the minds of other people and make them think a certain way, so you need to rely on the comfort of self-knowledge and self-acceptance. If you love yourself, it shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks about the choices you make in life.
